Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, has started his tour of Kilifi County today amid claims that the County had lost a whopping sh51 million through rogue officials. The money was stolen from the accounts of the Kilifi County Government through the manipulation of the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS). Raila’s visit to the troubled County has
been viewed as a scheme to shield and defend Governor Amason Kingi, who has been under pressure to take political responsibility and resign over the theft of public money under his watch. The visit also comes barely two days after Deputy President William Ruto toured the County and piled pressure on Kingi to resign over the issue. The Deputy President called the looting at Kingi’s County absurd and unacceptable. Ruto directed the EACC, DPP and Police to move with speed and apprehend the culprits in the Kilifi saga.
